The feeling of sharing has come over me this Sunday morning.
Recently I was asked to close a ceremony for a sacred life that suddenly passed through, a sudden heart attack on his vacation in Alaska, took an amazing soul.
His wife called me initially to end the ceremony with Longtime Sun Shine Song, a prayer with which we close every Kundalini Yoga practice. Her husband loved this song so much, not to my knowing, but to my surprise, how this practice touches so many souls on so many different levels.
A star wrestling coach, a mentor, and dear brother, husband, father and friend to so many loving this song…that his dear wife asked to be sung at his memorial. So I stood and read a sacred prayer at my old high school and then asked that everyone take the prayer pose at the heart center and chant. The man seated next to me was a Mormon minister. I am sure all of us were from one religious background to another and yet we were all gathered here to chant together this non-religious form of May the Longtime Sun Shine Upon You, All Love Surround you and the Pure Light within you guide your way on… together.
So I ask, where do I uniquely fit into myself? Where do I find my center daily, moment by moment and feel cozy? Where do I feel courageous enough to stand before a crowd of 1000 people and offer a prayer that they have never even heard before and believe it is good? This outside world is complicated enough; to contain a deep relationship is priority. Generally in relationship there are two different opinions heading towards one center… Prayer and Love, Material and Spiritual, usually one gets dropped as one feels that they cannot Keep Up with both. Sadly, a heart is broken because of the neglect of honesty to that life of commitment and prioritizing sacred prayer time and yogic practice.
I ask, can you conquer the mental game? Can you receive both the blessings, and deliver without breaking another heart in making them pay for your Mis…take?
Clear and clean your head of all conscious thought. When you are taught to fly a helicopter (I can out of experience share with you), if you ever have another thought at 1500 hundred feet, you’re going to crash, you need to keep your eye on the horizon, just like in meditation and deep practice! Focus!
No matter what your problems are in life, it is like facing that BULL everyday “The Bull Rider” look at what you’re up against and figure out how it works.
I am first generation teacher of Yoga in my family and they are all coaches, athletes, and great mentors but Yoga is unique to them. Maybe they agree or not but it is not my place to convince anyone. Just do it! You will see as this sacred soul saw, that The Longtime Sun Shines Upon You, All Love Surrounds You, and Pure Light within You will guide your way on!
Sat Nam!
