Karuna Leads Workshop at SAND Conference

by Dr Kurt Johnson, co-author of The Coming Interspiritual Age

Karuna presented a one-hour experiential on Kundalini Yoga at the Science and Non-Duality (SAND) conference held in SanJose, CA Oct 23-26, 2014.

SAND is the world’s largest gathering on the subject of science and spirituality and specifically, on the subject of “awakened consciousness” (non-duality) and science and spirit. In its 7th year in the US, SAND brings together the likes of quantum physicists and neuroscientists who are interested in how their fields are recognizing age-old spiritual truths, and revered spiritual teachers thrilled that modern science is discovering the realm of awakened or non-dual consciousness.

After two days of discussions, gatherings, and intriguing dinner conversations with spiritual teachers from across multiple wisdom traditions and scientists and psychologists from around the world, Karuna presented her experiential:  “Kundalini Yoga, The Yoga of Awareness” on Sunday, Oct 26th.

A full house of interested participants got their first hands on experience with the Kundalini technology. Interest was high and Karuna was video interviewed afterwards by the world’s largest spiritual interview website “Buddha at the Gas Pump.” In the interview, Karuna and guest Gurucharan Singh Khalsa answered host Rick Archer’s numerous questions about Yogi Bhajan, kundalini yoga, and the expanding international interest in this yoga technique and cosmology.

Karuna said the highlight of the SAND conference for her was meeting and hearing the real time teachings of leading non-dual teachers from around the world like Adyashanti, A.H. Almaas, Rupert Spira, Francis Lucille, Pamela Wilson and many more. An evening with Coleman Barks, translator of the great Persian Poet, Rumi–hearing Barks read from Rumi with wonderful musical accompaniment–stood out in her memory, along with tantalizing discussions about awakened consciousness by scientists like Harvard’s Rudolf Tanzi and pioneer quantum physicists like Henry Stapp and Lothar Schafer. Indeed, the planet’s world views are becoming One. What SAND speakers called the new Inter-spiritual Age or second Axial Age, paralleled the importance of the births of all the world’s religions.

Karuna looks forward to further activities with the SAND conference. As sociologists and United Nations representatives stressed, the global path to a real sense of “Oneness” is a complex and urgent one, needing the cooperation and dialogue of experts from across many fields of knowledge and from across the world’s varied cultural backgrounds and spiritual heritages.
