Nourishing Herbal Infusion

Nourishing Herbal Infusion

(Best for Vata)
Makes 1 Quart
This overnight infusion contains nourishing and hydrating plants. The demulcent quality of marshmallow and slippery elm protect the membranes of the gut and support healthy elimination. Oat straw is a famous rejuvenator and nourisher that also has nervine actions that support feeling calm and resilient. Nettles supply minerals and a purifying punch to balance this building formula.
- ½ cup fresh oat straw/milky oats (¼ cup dried)
- ½ cup fresh nettle leaves (¼ cup dried)
- 1 tbsp dried marshmallow root or slippery elm
Combine the herbs in a 1-qt mason jar and cover with almost boiling water. Cover and allow to steep overnight (8 to 12 hours).
In the morning, use a metal sieve to strain the infusion into another glass jar. Drink at room temperature, or warm gently to drink as a tea.
Sip the quart over the course of the day (always within 24 hours), and make a new batch in the evening for the following day.
