Makes 1 Quart
Red raspberry strengthens and tones the uterus; it has been used for centuries to prepare women for childbirth and to rebuild the uterus postpartum. Nettle provides much-needed minerals, and oat straw bolsters the deep tissues and nervous system. Bring a few jars of this infusion-or sachets of the blended herbs for enjoying later — to your postpartum friend.
- 2 tbsp dried nettle leaves
- 2 tbsp dried red raspberry leaves
- 2 tbsp dried oat straw
Combine the herbs in a l-qt mason jar and cover with almost boiling water. Cover and allow to steep overnight (8 to 12 hours).
In the morning, use a metal sieve to strain the infusion into another glass jar. Drink at room temperature, or warm gently to drink as a tea.
Sip the quart over the course of the day (always within 24 hours), and make a new batch in the evening for the following day.
How Long Should I Use Herbs?
Nourishing herbal infusions are like food and can be enjoyed regularly, but stronger herbal medicines, like tinctures or powders, tend to be intense and targeted.
Ayurveda’s recommendation on using herbal medicines is generally three to four months. If it is the right medicine for the condition, you should see an improvement by this time.
